Water Oak's grain is tighter and smoother than other red oak trees.  This bowl is a bit hefty and is sized to fit nicely in the hands with the thumbs rolled over the inner sloping rim.  The bowl has decorative appeal provided by bi-colored patterning of the grain and a knot on one side of the rim.  As the freshly turned bowl dried, it took on an oval shape and a bow to the rim - these effects are symmetrical and can be thought of as part of the design.  The wood was sourced in West Tennessee, and the bowl was finished with Tung Oil Finish
