For all its natural flaws, this wide, shallow bowl has some amazing character.  The bowl was cut from a large section of Bradford pear trunk at a major branch point.  There are few better examples of the "feathered" grain the tree forms to support the branches.  The drying of the wood has even given the feather a three dimensional texture.  Drying has also led to cracks in the feather grain and along the central core areas of the branches.  The smaller cracks are filled and the larger ones are stable.  The wood was sourced in Cleveland County, AR.  The bowl is finished in Tung Oil Finish and polished with carnauba wax.
