The inviting patterns of spalting in this red oak bowl arose from fungal activity after the tree came down in heavy storms. Once turned, the edge of the bowl developed a slight, natural cupping from drying. This is a hearty bowl that would look great on an informal table holding fruit or bread. (There are some very small beetle bore holes that would likely make the bowl unsuitable for holding liquids and there are a couple of larger bore holes on one side below the rim.) The wood was sourced in Lincoln County, AR and the bowl is finished in food safe products - mineral oil and beeswax.
