Red oak has a looser, more distinctive grain than many other hardwoods.  The wood for this bowl, sourced in Lincoln County, AR after heavy wind storms damaged timberland, developed a good deal of spalting.  It is finished with food-grade mineral oil and beeswax. The oak has some heft and the shape is perfect for holding with two hands with your fingers underneath and thumbs along the inward sloping rim.  Its just what you need to toss and serve a salad for two.
