The natural beauty and wonder of the wood used in this work is unparalleled, and the unique design was selected to highlight the wood's beauty. The complex grain of the branch wood runs across the entire bottom of the bowl and exquisite flame figuring radiates up all sides. Since the plate was turned when the wood was wet, drying of the wood has left strong texturing and ripples that give a prominent feel to the patterned appearance. The plate also features a live edge with bark along the entire rim. This is a large piece and the thick sides starting at 1/2 inch at the rim and thickening to a 1-1/2 inch foot give it mass. The Bradford Pear tree for this work was recovered in Cleveland County, AR. Tung Oil Finish and carnauba wax polishing give the plate a soft luster.
